When his mother died in 1664, Niels Steensen inherited a sum of money which enabled him to go abroad again. He went to Paris, and was the guest of the prominent French academician, Melchisédec Thévenot, and met the elite of the French intelligentsia. In Paris Steensen held his famous lecture on the brain.
